Watercolors — flowers

I paint plants most often, and they are where I started. These are not botanical portraits — I do not mind whether the species can be identified from the painting. What interests me is the shape: the spiny head of a thistle, a wild carrot umbel, the seed head left behind once the flower has gone.

The backgrounds are usually painted wet on wet: the colour soaks into damp paper and spreads on its own, without drawing. That keeps the flower sharp while everything behind it stays a suggestion of a meadow rather than a description of one.
