What size of painting for a living room
The question I am asked most often is what size works above a sofa. A practical rule is that a painting should be between half and two thirds of the width of the furniture below it. Above a typical three-seat sofa of 200-220 cm, a canvas 100-140 cm wide sits well. That is why I paint most often in the 100 × 100 cm format, which you will find in twenty-two works in this gallery, and in 100 × 120 cm.
If you have a whole free wall in the living room, wider than three metres, a one-metre canvas will start to disappear on it. That is the moment for a large format: eighteen of my paintings have a side of at least 120 cm, and the largest measures 130 × 185 cm. A painting of that size is not wall decoration, it is the main point of the room, and it does not need other paintings around it.
For smaller interiors, and for hanging in a group, there is the 60 × 60 cm format. Three of those side by side read as a single composition, provided they come from the same colour series.
Before you buy an oil painting
My oil paintings cost between 1000 and 5500 PLN, and the price depends mostly on the format. Every work is painted once, is signed, and travels to you with a certificate of authenticity. I do not make copies or repetitions.
Paintings are sent unframed, on stretcher bars, ready to hang. An oil on canvas does not need a frame or glass, and the sides of the canvas are painted, so the work looks finished from the side as well. If you would like a frame, I will suggest what suits the particular painting.
The paintings can be seen in person in Warsaw, by prior arrangement. It is worth it, because the texture of the paint is the one thing a photograph will not give you. With large formats please allow extra time: a freshly finished oil has to rest before it travels, and with the largest canvases that wait can be longer than the painting itself.
