A garden nobody has weeded for years stops being a garden and becomes something of its own. The plants cross by themselves and produce forms that appear in no catalogue.
These two towers are exactly that: spheres threaded one above another, banded with navy and green, topped with a tuft of fine needles. The bands were made wet on wet — the colour entered damp paper and stopped where it chose.
The turquoise stems are unreal and meant to be. The ground stayed beige, with brown fluffy blooms like last year's dried flower heads.
