Birds most often: sparrows in little caps, tits among ears of grain, cranes with curving necks. And peacocks, which I probably return to most willingly — a peacock's tail is a ready-made watercolour exercise, a dozen washes bleeding into one another, none of which can be corrected once dry.

There are fish too, a snail and a bee. I usually paint an animal in the company of a plant: on a branch, among grasses, beside a flower — alone in an empty frame it looks like a cut-out.
