In the morning you never hear one bird, you hear all of them at once — and there is no telling which one started. Hence the title.
There are four birds here and only one of them is singing: the middle one, with its beak open. The rest sit scattered towards the edges, as if they had just landed or were about to leave. The leaves are heart-shaped and translucent, the twigs thin, and the whole thing rests on green dissolved in water.
The ground was laid wet on wet, so the colour spread by itself and there is no drawing in it at all. That leaves the birds and the leaves as the only things with a definite shape — the eye goes to them, and the rest stays a suggestion of thicket.
