The most painterly work in the whole archive — no nets here, no drawing, just paint. Two large white tulips stand side by side against a ground laid in broad horizontal strokes of yellow, grey and white.
I built the white of the flowers in many layers holding traces of grey and violet — because pure white from the tube is dead and flat. Only a mixed white like that begins to glow.
At the bottom I left a few strong accents: pink, a graphite shape, a dark form on the right. They hold the composition so the flowers do not float away.
A warm, calm painting, good for a room where everything else is already vivid enough.
