Two kinds of form in one painting: blue, elongated, covered with a net of cells, and smooth grey ovals without any drawing at all. All rise on thin stems from dark navy grasses along the lower edge.
The turquoise ground runs down vertically, like water on glass. It is the only trace of movement in the whole work — everything else stands still.
The pairing of rough with smooth matters more here than the colour. The netted forms look alive, the ovals look like stone, and they grow from the same ground.
The title is a memory of light, not of a place. That is how I remembered that blue.
Oil on canvas, 100 × 120 cm. This work has been sold; it stays in the archive to show where the paintings available today came from. Similar motifs are in the oil painting gallery.
