A large navy form, shaped like a heart or a leaf, takes up almost the whole canvas. Paint runs down it in vertical streaks, as if it had just been raining. In the upper left of the form a small white note is held by an office paper clip.
The note is blank. That is the whole painting: someone left a message and either did not write it, or the rain washed it away.
Setting hand-painted, running matter against a single office object is deliberate and uncomfortable. The paper clip does not belong to this world, and that is exactly why the eye goes to it.
A small square, an intimate work — it hangs well on its own, at eye level.
Oil on canvas, 60 × 60 cm. This work has been sold; it stays in the archive to show where the paintings available today came from. Similar motifs are in the oil painting gallery.
