A magnification so large that you no longer know of what. A blue net of rounded cells fills the whole canvas, spreading from a lighter centre towards darker edges.
At the very centre the net loops — two distinct knots where the line folds back on itself instead of flowing on. That is the only place where the order breaks, and the whole work is really about those two centimetres.
I painted this without reference to any particular plant. The same structure recurs in my work on the surfaces of flowers and fruit; here it is left alone, without a form to wrap.
The square and the symmetry make the painting work like a window or a lens. It hangs well on its own, on a quiet wall.
Oil on canvas, 100 × 100 cm. This work has been sold; it stays in the archive to show where the paintings available today came from. Similar motifs are in the oil painting gallery.
