Plants from shallow water, where everything grows crooked because it looks for light at a different angle. Curving green stems end in spherical heads speckled with yellow and green, and pale translucent bubbles drift around them.
The background is a co-author here: greens shift into blue so that no boundary is visible between water, air and plant. I did not want to set a level or a horizon — in a marsh nobody knows where one thing ends and another begins.
The spherical shape has recurred in my paintings for years. Here it is at its most cheerful, because the colour is light and spring-like.
