The whole surface of the canvas is a grey and white floor laid in rhombuses, which the eye assembles into cubes. Cold, even, without a single accidental mark.
From a gap between the tiles grows a dandelion: two yellow flowers and a rosette of ragged green leaves. The only living things in this painting, and the only ones without a straight line.
The most literal work I have made, and the one that needs least explaining. The weed beats the floor because it has time.
The geometric ground means the painting looks well in a modern, minimal interior — even though it says the opposite.
Oil on canvas, 60 × 60 cm. This work has been sold; it stays in the archive to show where the paintings available today came from. Similar motifs are in the oil painting gallery.
