A dozen or so golden fluffy spheres on very thin dark stems. Some large and close, others small and high — the whole painting is about that rhythm, about size standing in for perspective.
I built the ground thickly, with visible texture: greys, creams and a muted yellow, scrubbed back so the canvas shows through. Along the very bottom I laid a black band that closes everything off and stops the composition from draining away.
The gold of these spheres is not metallic. It is ordinary paint, only laid in many small strokes that catch the light at different angles.
A warm, cheerful work, one of the few in my archive kept in yellows.
