Pale lilac and blue grasses stand densely and upright, filling almost the whole canvas with a soft feathery rhythm. Against them are drawn navy seed umbels on thin dark stems — several close together, one high on the right, alone.
The whole work stays in a single cool range: lilac, silver, blue and navy. There is not one warm accent here, and that was the intention.
I painted the umbels with a sharp thin line and the grasses broadly and softly. It is that clash of technique, not of colour, that builds the depth.
A large horizontal format. A calming work, good above a bed or in a study.
