Three cream-yellow spherical flowers sit low on white branching stems. Around them grow blue feathery leaves and small dark seed umbels, and everything sinks into a pale, damp ground.
The gold of the title is very quiet here — this is not a sunny yellow but a creamy, almost extinguished one, the colour of dry grass on an overcast day.
I set the warm spheres against cold blue feathers because in nature those two temperatures sit side by side constantly and nobody finds it jarring.
A soft, quiet work without hard edges. It hangs well where people rest.
Oil on canvas, 100 × 120 cm. This work has been sold; it stays in the archive to show where the paintings available today came from. Similar motifs are in the oil painting gallery.
