Under a large, grey-blue umbrella stands a boy hugging two small birds, sheltering them from the rain. Above him spread round treetops in saturated ultramarine, and from their edges hang large, transparent drops of water painted in a few confident glazes. The whole scene plays out on the clean white of the paper, which I left as air and light, limiting the palette to blues, cool greys, and touches of cobalt. A light, illustrative drawing and watery, transparent paint give the work a warm, storytelling character.
This is a watercolor of great tenderness, perfect for a child's room and as a gift for someone who cares for animals.
