Dark, graphite-navy umbels of wild carrot grow out of a misty background in cool blues, turquoise, and pearl grey. I painted on wet paper, letting the pigments spread into soft clouds, then lit up the composition with flecks of white that resemble snowflakes settling on the faded seed heads. In the lower part of the frame a delicate, cobalt drawing of twigs appears, contrapuntal to the dense, almost black patches of seeds. The mood is quiet and frosty, yet very luminous, like a walk at dusk across a snow-covered meadow.
