A meadow where the grasses are silver and the flowers blue — one that does not exist. Feathery, densely laid spikes fill the whole canvas with a diagonal movement, and between them rise elongated blue forms wrapped in a golden net of veins.
I wanted the silver not to be grey. I laid it in layers, one over another, until it began to catch light differently from the ground — which is why this painting looks different in the morning and in the evening.
Gold on blue is a combination that is easy to overdo: it is either noble or garish. Here it was meant to be the first.
Oil on canvas, 100 × 120 cm. This work has been sold; it stays in the archive to show where the paintings available today came from. Similar motifs are in the oil painting gallery.
