Women's faces overlap in a tight frame, painted with the thinnest glazes of flesh pink, beige, and cool grey — the contours are barely indicated, and the form is built by the transparency of the paint alone. Out of this milky, almost nebulous matter only the eyes emerge: blue, attentive, drawing the gaze with persistence. The repetition and rhythm of the heads create a mood of silence and shared vigil, as if a portrait of memory rather than of a specific moment. A very limited palette and wet, merging blooms give the work a mood of intimacy and delicacy.
A subtle, atmospheric painting for a bedroom, living room, or a collector's wall of portraits.
