Umbels of wild carrot bloom here as scattered, grainy patches in the color of rust, cinnamon, and burnt gold, with lighter, cool-blue hearts in the middle. The whole floats on a warm, apricot background with a visible paper texture, and delicate, silvery-grey drawings of stems and forked pedicels are inscribed into that mist. I make full use here of the capriciousness of watercolor — the pigment settles unevenly, creating granulation, stains, and soft halos that give the flowers an almost velvety texture.
