TRANSPARENCY MEADOW paper, watercolor, ink, 30 × 40 cm
The flowers here are so transparent that you can see the stems growing behind them — that transparency is exactly where the title comes from. The lower part of the composition is filled by a spreading blue cup with a dense, black, ink-drawn pistil at its center, while above it a second, even more delicate flower rises in cool indigo. I build the painting with thin glazes laid one over another, and warm, golden-sandy stains in the background cut through the coolness of the blue and bring in light.
The effect is light and airy, as if the whole meadow were seen through a window at sunrise. An elegant choice for a bedroom, a light-toned living room, or a study.
