In the middle of the composition rises a slender bulrush spike in saturated cobalt, marked with a rhythm of darker navy dots that settled on the still-damp paper. Around it I arranged pale green and mint grass blades and delicate, drawn panicles resembling dry seed heads. The background is left almost white, only lightly veiled with a grey-green glaze, so the colors seem lit through and suspended in the air. The transparency of the paint and the soft blurring of the edges give the work a lightness that no other technique can achieve.
