Wild carrot is a weed that grows on any waste ground and nobody gives it a second look. The umbel, though, has a structure nobody could invent: dozens of tiny flowers on rays coming out of one point, and sometimes a single dark one in the middle.
Here there are two large umbels and several further ones, increasingly blurred. The white is the white of the paper — in watercolour you do not paint it in, you plan it and go around it. The navy came last, so that those white heads would have something to lift off.
I chose the square format on purpose: an umbel is round, and in a rectangle one corner always stays empty.
