Spherical flowerheads in a color of deep sapphire and cobalt float on thin, golden-ochre stems, as if someone had gathered a handful of small planets into a bouquet. The inside of each sphere lightens to white in places where the paint was washed out of the wet paper, giving an effect of glass lit through from within. The cool, silvery-grey background stays misty and slightly blurred, so that the golden lines of leaves and shoots gain an almost graphic clarity.
The juxtaposition of cold blue with warm gold gives the composition a noble, decorative character. The piece looks excellent in a passe-partout and a gold frame, in a living room, dining room, or elegant study.
