The composition, kept in sandy beiges and muted blue, brings to mind a faded page from an old herbarium. In the lower part of the frame the leading role belongs to a spiky thistle head — a navy sphere speckled with luminous, emerald green, surrounded by a fan of thin, sharp needles. Behind it float two large, blurred spheres in a cool, smoky blue, and faint, brownish branch lines run across the background.
I build the painting here with very diluted glazes, letting the color settle and granulate on the damp paper, which gives an effect of subtle, almost photographic blur. A quiet, peaceful piece for a study, a bedroom, or an interior in natural, muted tones.
