A large tulip cup fills almost the entire sheet — saturated cobalt spreads through the wet paper, lightening toward the bottom into a cool, milky blue. At the base of the petals I introduced a streak of black, which soaked into the paint in a branching, frost-like pattern and became the most hypnotic fragment of the painting. Beside it, in the lower right corner, a second, lighter flower rises in a tone of pale turquoise, and a thin black stem runs down like one decisive line.
The composition is extremely simple and, because of that, very modern: a lot of white, one color, the perfect transparency of watercolor. Ideal for a living room, a bedroom, or as part of a gallery wall of blue works.
