This painting should not leave the viewer indifferent. Deep navy and cobalt petals fall softly against a background of cool, rubbed gray, and their surface is marked with dark, almost black speckles.
This is my voice against the thoughtless, destructive interference of man in the life of nature. Plants have the right to be allergic to us, to react with a rash to the approaching "benefactor" with a canister full of chemicals. Perhaps it will lead you and your guests to make somewhat more thoughtful consumer decisions...?
I suspended the composition between botanical observation and pure abstraction, so that silence and a focused melancholy would remain in it. I set saturated blue against the matte, stony texture of the background, and I lay the oil matter densely and confidently. The painting has a strong, decided character — it will find its place in a modern living room or in a study with a subdued, deep palette.
