I painted this abstract, modern composition while wondering whether plants feel fear. From the bottom of the canvas I lead out a slender, flame like form built of thousands of tiny, silvery needles, brightened by shimmering blue accents.
They certainly warn one another of danger by secreting the appropriate scents and hormones. So perhaps they also get goose bumps and their hair stands on end? I lead the delicate, hair thin brush strokes with unusual patience, building a downy, almost furry texture.
A blurred, steel blue background surrounds this form with a soft mist, heightening the impression of fleetingness and tension. This is an atmospheric, mysterious work, in which the lightness of the matter meets the gravity of a cool palette. Set in a white frame it will find its place perfectly above a sofa in an elegant, deep navy living room.
